RABBIT TALES WORLD PREMIERE A SUCCESS

The breezy and cold weather was not enough to stifle the enthusiasm and excitement of nearly 500 people who attended the world premiere of the Atlanta Opera’s new opera for children, Rabbit Tales, at the Wren’s Nest house museum on Saturday, October 29th. In celebration of , The Atlanta Opera collaborated with the Wren’s Nest house museum and NBAF, the presenters of the National Black Arts Festival, to introduce children and families to this new multicultural opera.

Audiences enjoyed geographically themed craft activities and house museum tours as well as storytelling and face-painting on the back lawn. Audiences enjoyed the performance of Rabbit Tales on the natural grass amphitheater, as well as a talk-back with the cast and creative team. Children and adults alike were interested to hear about the concept and creation of the work, as well as insights into opera performance and vocal health and preparation. Rabbit Tales is based on Joel Chandler Harris’ famous Br’er Rabbit stories and incorporates Native American, African and Cajun folklore as well.

The opera will tour throughout the Metro Atlanta area and other parts of the state this Fall and again in Spring 2012.
